Automatic transmission work we do
- Transmission fluid and filter changes to the manufacturer specification
- Sump and pan removal, cleaning and gasket replacement
- Transmission fault codes read with dealer-level equipment
- Harsh, delayed or slipping shifts diagnosed
- Solenoid, valve body and sensor faults
- Torque converter shudder and lock-up problems
- Transmission cooler and line leaks
- Adaptation resets and relearns after a service or repair
- Referral and management of full rebuilds where one is genuinely needed
There is no such thing as sealed for life
Plenty of manufacturers describe their transmission fluid as filling for life. In Australian conditions — heat, traffic, towing, hills — that fluid still breaks down, and a gearbox running degraded fluid wears out early.
Changing the fluid and filter at sensible intervals is one of the cheapest things you can do for a car with an automatic. A rebuild is one of the most expensive.
What we do and what we do not do
We drop the pan, replace the filter, clean the magnets and refill with the correct fluid to the manufacturer's specification and fill procedure. Many modern transmissions have no dipstick and must be filled at a set fluid temperature — get that wrong and the gearbox will shift badly.
We do not do high pressure flushes on high kilometre transmissions that have never been serviced. Forcing fluid through an old gearbox can dislodge debris and turn a shifting complaint into a failure.
Symptoms worth booking in for
A jolt or bang between gears, a delay of a second or two before the car engages drive or reverse, revs rising without the car speeding up, a shudder at steady highway speed, or a transmission warning light. Any of those are worth looking at early — several have cheap fixes if you catch them, and none get better on their own.
What it costs
A fluid and filter service is priced by the vehicle and the amount of fluid it takes, and European transmissions generally take more. Diagnostic work is charged by time. Either way you get a quote before we start.
